Mommy makeover is a common term used to refer to the combination of a breast procedure and tummy tuck. Mommy makeovers are ideal for patients seeking to restore their pre-pregnancy bodies. Because pregnancy mostly affects the breasts and abdomen, the mommy makeover targets these regions with breast surgery and Tummy Tuck surgery. The breasts usually become sagging and deflated as the stomach develops stretch marks and bulging. Our doctors customize each mommy makeover to the needs of the patient, so the treatment could include an arm lift or body shaping such as Liposuction and Brazilian butt lift (BBL) if desired.

BEST CANDIDATES FOR MOMMY MAKEOVER SURGERY

– Patients with sagging and deflated breasts
– Patients with excess abdominal skin with stretch marks and bulging
– Patients with nipples and areolas that point downward, especially if they are positioned below the breast crease
– Excess skin and fat in the lower back, hips, buttocks and thighs due to weight gain and loss

CONSULTATION

During the consultation, our doctors will first ask questions to determine what kind of goals the patient has for the surgery, including any specific improvements to the stomach and breasts. Our doctors and the patient will then put together an individualized mommy makeover package to focus on the concerns and goals of the patient.

SURGERY DETAILS

The mommy makeover is performed under general anesthesia for approximately 4-5 hours. The tummy tuck is performed first, with the incision site placed around the level of the pubic hairline. After the tummy tuck, our doctors will perform the breast portion of the procedure. They will perform a breast lift, breast augmentation, or a combination of the two based on the patient’s treatment plan.

RECOVERY & POST OPERATION

– Our doctors will provide patients with post-operative instructions, including how to care for and monitor the drain tubes for the first two weeks.
– Patients will need to wear a surgical bra and/or a compression garment to promote healing for the first few weeks.
– Patients cannot shower until they get approval from our doctors.
– Since the mommy makeover includes multiple surgeries, patients should plan to take at least 2 weeks off to rest and recover. Patients can return to work when they feel ready, which is usually about 2-3 weeks, but they must wait at least 6 weeks before attempting any physically challenging activities like exercise.

FROM OUR DOCTORS

“Fantastic way for moms to reward themselves for all the hard work they have done with childbearing. We focus on rejuvenating the breasts with a lift and possibly an implant, as well as performing a tummy tuck.”

– DR. RAHGOZAR

“The mommy makeover has become more popular in recent years, and really refers to the combination of tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) with a breast rejuvenation procedure (either breast augmentation, or breast lift, or both). This is best used for patients who are finished having children since many of the benefits would be lost if the patient has more children afterward.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Other Mommy Makeover options?

The surgical options vary greatly from person to person and will depend on the patient’s personal goals. Most women choose to combine breast and body procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck, breast augmentation, or breast lift for their mommy makeover. Our doctors will help every patient choose the appropriate treatments to meet their needs.

What can I expect from my final Mommy Makeover results?

The result of the mommy makeover should last several years under normal circumstances. Once the skin is tightened, it will get a little looser with the aging process, but not much. If, however, one was to gain then lose a large amount of weight after the procedure, the abdominal skin could stretch out again, negatively impacting the overall contour. Likewise, if pregnancy occurs after the procedure, the abdomen and breasts may loosen and change shape again.

How fast can I recover from a Mommy Makeover?

Depending on the types of surgeries chosen and whether the breast, abdomen, or both are addressed, recovery times will vary. Patients usually go home the same day as the procedure, but our doctors may recommend an overnight stay if extensive surgery was performed, or if the patient has other medical issues. In many cases, patients are able to resume most of their normal activities in 7-10 days with a full recovery around 6 weeks.
